Workshop on Broadband Wireless Multimedia (BroadWIM), 2004

Friday, October 29th, 2004     San Jose, California, USA

The 1st International Workshop on Broadband Wireless Multimedia: Algorithms, Architectures and Applications (BroadWIM) will be held at San Jose, CA on Friday, October 29, 2004, in conjunction with the BroadNets conference. BroadWIM focuses on the timely and exciting topic of broadband multimedia, a market being enabled by advances in the wireless technologies (e.g., 802.11, 802.16 and UWB), multimedia standards (e.g., H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) and application-layer/middleware protocols (e.g., SIP).

We’re very proud to have collected a set of high-quality papers, presenting advances or discussing challenges in various aspects of broadband wireless multimedia delivery. The papers provide a balanced view of ongoing research efforts in both academia and industry at various layers, covering topics such as  MACs for emerging wireless access links, power-aware or high-throughput streaming architectures, use of multicasting techniques for video and audio applications, and middleware layers for integrating multimedia into existing or future mobile applications. In addition, the workshop will have a panel discussion featuring industry experts who debate the promises of and challenges faced by wireless multimedia applications and architectures. Please join us in San Jose for this exciting workshop, featuring invited and regular papers from an international research community!
